Neumann, Crededio Win Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit
Lake Vermilion Qualifier
Presented by Garmin
Tower, Minn.—June 17, 2017—Alan Neumann and Josh Crededio sacked 18 pounds, 11 ounces to win the Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit’s regular season qualifier presented by Garmin on Minnesota’s renowned Lake Vermilion June 17.
“This is awesome,” said Neumann, of Krakow, Wisconsin. “We were second at the NABC’s Sturgeon Bay tournament but didn’t know what to expect at Vermilion. This is an incredible fishery, but we didn’t think we had enough to win. To come out on top is amazing.”
“It’s exciting,” added Crededio, of South Elgin, Illinois. “It will definitely keep me awake on the way home tonight.”
The winners weighed a 5-fish limit consisting of one largemouth and four smallmouths. They started out the day fishing topwater frogs in Everett Bay, then finished up throwing tubes and craw baits to near-shore boulders and docks later in the day.
The victory earned them the $5,400 first-place cash payout, and coupled with their second-place Sturgeon Bay finish, put them in great position for the team-of-the-year race. “We’re looking forward to the Bay de Noc tournament,” said Crededio. “If we can put a good bag together we’re in pretty good shape.”
Rounding out the top five teams were:
2nd: Terry Tretsven, Mike Bruno, 18-08, $2,100 cash (tie)
2nd: Michael Walters, Luke Ronnestrand, 18-08, $2,100 cash (tie), plus $2,793 from the option pot
4th: Scott Bonnema, Mark Fisher, 18-05, $1,100 cash, plus $1,862 from the option pot
5th: Jim Merthan, Dave Skallet, 18-02, $1,000 cash
In all, the Cabela’s NABC awarded a total payout of $20,996 in cash and prizes.
A total of 210 bass weighing 661 pounds, 2 ounces crossed the scale at Fortune Bay Resort Casino and Resort and were returned to Lake Vermilion in the Cabela’s NABC’s catch-and-release format. Big bass was a 5-pound, 7-ounce beauty caught by Terry Tretsven and Mike Bruno.
This was the second of four 2017 Cabela’s NABC regular-season qualifiers. The remaining schedule includes Bays de Noc, Michigan, July 29; and Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota, August 19. A special NABC Open and the Tournament of Champions are set for September 23-24 on the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is in its seventh season as title sponsor of the NABC. Other sponsors include: Ranger Boats, Stratos Boats, Mercury Marine, Garmin and G-Juice.
Based in Ponca City, Oklahoma, the Cabela’s NABC is open to two-person teams regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Entry fees are $400 per regular season tournament and for the NABC Open.
Along with an overall payback to anglers well in excess of 100 percent, a small donation is included in each entry fee and matched by the NABC and other conservation organizations up to 3-to-1 in support of bass conservation projects anywhere the NABC does business.
