Chippewa Falls, Wisc.—July 30, 2016—Hometown heroes Paul Lewandowski and Shayne Dennign, both of Chippewa Falls, flipped their way to victory at the Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit’s Lake Wissota qualifying tournament presented by Mercury with a 5-fish limit weighing 11 pounds, 1 ounce.

“It was a challenging bite and we didn’t have a keeper by 10 o’clock, so just catching a limit was exciting—coming out on top was the icing on the cake,” said Dennign, who noted it was he and Lewandowski’s first NABC tournament. “Everyone was so friendly and the whole experience so far ahead of our expectations, we’ll definitely be back.”

“It was a lot of fun,” added Lewandowski, who explained they spent the day pitching docks with Senkos and tubes. “When we upgraded from a tiny tube to a 5-incher it made a big difference,” he said.

They pocketed $4,300 in cash for their efforts. They also received a one-night stay at the Plaza Hotel’s Presidential Suite.

Rounding out the top five were:

2nd: Randy Ramsey and Tim Willibuganz, 10-14, $2,300 cash, plus $315 from the big bass pot

3rd: Ben Otto and Casey Gallagher, 10-07, $1,400 cash

4th: Jason Corrao and Shaun Kruzitski, 10-07, $1,050 cash, plus $525 from the big bass pot

5th: Dennis Fiedler and Duane Anderson, 10-05, $738 cash

In all, the Cabela’s NABC awarded a total payout of $11,858 in cash and prizes. A total of 67 bass weighing 133 pounds, 11 ounces crossed the scale and were returned to Lake Wissota in the Cabela’s NABC’s catch-and-release format. Big bass of the day was a 3-pound, 1-ouncer caught by Ken Quilt and Martin Kurvers.

This was the third of four 2016 Cabela’s NABC regular-season qualifiers. The regular season finale takes place on Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota, August 13, while the Cabela’s NABC Championship is set for October 1-2 at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is in its sixth season as title sponsor of the NABC. Other sponsors include: Ranger Boats, Stratos Boats, Mercury Marine, Garmin, MotorGuide, G-Juice and T-H Marine.

Open to all two-person teams regardless of club or sponsor affiliation, the Cabela’s NABC is based in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Entry fees are $500 per regular season tournament and $600 for the two-day championship. The Circuit offered an overall payback of more than 100 percent in 2015 and will do so again in 2016. In addition, a small donation is included in each entry fee and matched by the NABC and other conservation organizations up to 3-to-1 in support of bass conservation projects anywhere the NABC does business.
