MAY 3, 2012—MINNETONKA, MN—World-class bass fishing and hefty paychecks await when the North American Bass Circuit kicks off its 2012 season on Wisconsin’s bass-rich Lake Winnebago Chain.
Set for May 12, the single-day, team-format tournament is open to all anglers regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Teams will launch from scenic Menominee Park in downtown Oshkosh at 7 a.m., and whoever brings in the heaviest 5-bass basket to the 3 p.m. weigh-in walks away with a $10,000 paycheck, (based on 50-boat field) plus sponsor contingencies and serious bragging rights in the bass community.
Cabela’s NABC payouts are based on the number of teams entered in each event. At last count, the Winnebago payout was already over $15,000 in cash, not including sponsor bonuses from Cabela’s, Ranger Boats, Bomber, Booyah Bait Co., Optima, Oxygenator, Sufix, Trigger X, XCalibur and YUM.
Local families and bass fans of all ages are invited to join the fun at Menominee Park beginning at 3 p.m, when more than 80 of the Midwest’s best bass anglers bring their baskets to the Cabela’s NABC stage. Weigh-in spectators will be treated to a steady stream of bass, along with exciting stories and valuable fishing tips from the tournament anglers. Plus, the Cabela’s NABC and National Professional Anglers Association will raffle off free fishing tackle to kids ages 12 and under throughout the event.
Last season, Brad Rubin of Neenah, Wisconsin, and Chris Jones of Antioch, Illinois, won the NABC’s Winnebago tournament by sacking an impressive 17.58-pound, 5-fish mixed bag of beefy largemouths and bronzebacks. The pair pocketed a $10,000 first-place check, along with bonuses including $1,000 Ranger Cup, $500 Cabela’s Angler Cash, $100 Oxygenator award and $750 in Big-Fish Pot winnings.
Registration is now under way with an entry fee of $500 per team. Teams may register by mail, fax, or online. Full details and printable registration forms are available at northamericanbasscircuit.com. Or email email@example.com for more information. Anyone interested in joining the fun should keep in mind that registration closes at midnight Sunday May 6. Also, the tournament is quickly approaching the full field mark, which could close registration earlier.
This is the first stop on the NABC’s 2012 season. The remaining tournaments are June 23 on the Madison Chain at McFarland, Wisconsin, August 4 on Gull Lake, Minnesota, out of Cragun’s Resort, and Sept. 8 at Leech Lake, Minnesota, out of Trappers’ Landing Lodge near Walker. Teams fishing two or more of these NABC tournaments compete for berths in the NABC World Bass Championship, set for Oct. 5-6 on Pools 4 and 5 of the Mississippi River. The event offers a $30,000 cash purse plus sponsor bonuses, and carries a $20,000 first-place paycheck plus ultimate bassin’ bragging rights.
