The Midwest’s top two-person bass fishing teams are battling to turn Sturgeon Bay’s legendary bronze into solid gold this weekend Oct. 1-2 at the 2016 North American Bass Circuit World Bass Championship.
Presented by Cabela’s, the prestigious event kicked off this morning with an 8 a.m. takeoff. Teams are fishing Sturgeon Bay of Lake Michigan out of Wave Pointe Resort and Marina.
The championship roster is rich in talent. It includes the 2016 Cabela’s NABC Team of the Year Ben Otto and Casey Gallagher, The Bass Federation’s 2016 TBF District 9 National Semi-Finals Champion Scott Bonnema, touring pros like Seth Fieder and other top contenders.
Cabela’s NABC senior tournament director Dan Palmer expects an all-out bassin’ brawl for the championship crown.
“Water temperatures are running anywhere from the 50s to the 60s, and bass are in transition so there’s going to be a lot of running and gunning,” he says. “I can’t wait to see how the best of the best figure out the bite on one of the world’s premier smallmouth fisheries.”
Weigh-in action begins bayside at 4 p.m. today at Wave Pointe Resort, and the public is invited to join the fun and cheer on their favorite teams.
Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is concluding its sixth season as title sponsor of the NABC. Other sponsors include: Ranger Boats, Stratos Boats, Mercury Marine, Garmin, MotorGuide, G-Juice and T-H Marine.
